a single page with 1.1 MB of text works much better than most modern sites on a slow device.
Minimalisme not lean, not agility should be the new orientation of everything-IT.
Web is bloated with addiction-inducing contents, I-have-bigger-followers-than-you contests,
Modern applications are submerged by hordes of abstraction layers that turn the simplest solution into a RAM-absorbing,CPU-devouring monster. It then evolves into debugging hell when error occur.
Even instant-messaging applications (I am looking at you Teams) pretend to be all-in-one tools. Actually, like smartphones, they manages to do everything but in the worst way possible while turning your device into an heater.
I feel that modern IT is running amok, perpetually adding layers of complexity to problems. It a kind of "magic thought" (Pensée magique in French)
Not only every "innovations/breaktroughs" softwares and technologies does not solve existing problems but they add their owns, requiring more and more experts, and disabling all possibility to get a complete, exhaustive view of solutions.
At work, I still don't know what is the added-value of K8S (I do not work for one of those internet giants that may need real-time scalabilty and 99.99999999999 availability), except for consultancy firms which are delighted to sell their (always) expensive and (rarely) competent employees.
CI/CD is another aspect : now building your solutions nearly requires a full-time dedicated engineer. Ok, I am a veteran, but I used Apache Ant in 200X, and my build where fully automated, tested and deployed without any outside help.
